Brady Corbet’s ‘The Brutalist’ To Star Joel Edgerton, Marion Cotillard, Mark Rylance, & More

Since making the move from acting to directing, Brady Corbet has been the beneficiary of a lot of hype. Perhaps it was the novelty of his roles in front of the camera, or his screenplays for Simon Killer or The Sleepwalker, both excellent, which brought him so much attention. However, I would argue the results, seen in The Childhood of a Leader and 2018’s Vox Lux, have been underwhelming despite excellent casts all around. And now Corbet has gathered another stellar group for his next movie, The Brutalist, and let’s hope things turn out better this time.

Corbet’s film The Brutalist will star Marion Cotillard, Joel Edgerton, Mark Rylance, Sebastian Stan, Isaach De Bankolé, Vanessa Kirby, Stacy Martin, Alessandro Nivola, and Raffey Cassidy.

Damn, son.

That’s an incredible lineup, and the story doesn’t sound bad, either. Co-written by Corbet and Mona Fastvold, The Brutalist “chronicles 30 years in the life of one artist’s enduring monolithic vision. When visionary architect László Toth (Edgerton) and his wife Erzsébet (Cotillard) flee post-war Europe to rebuild their legacy and witness the birth of modern America, their lives are changed forever by a mysterious and wealthy client (Rylance). The incomparable Brady Corbet returns with an epic saga and an unconventional love story that will take László and Erzsébet to both monumental heights and devastating lows.”

Filming begins in January, and this is one that I will definitely be keeping an eye on. Fingers crossed that Corbet can deliver.
