‘Your Monster’ Trailer: Melissa Barrera Falls In Love With The Monster In Her Closet

Up for a modern day Beauty and the Beast story? Debuting earlier this year at Sundance was Your Monster, Caroline Lindy’s debut feature starring Scream actress Melissa Barrera, who is busier than ever despite leaving that lucrative horror franchise. While not truly a horror movie, this one arrives in theaters just in time for Halloween.

Barrera stars as a woman who is broken up with by her boyfriend, who then proceeds to stage a musical that she helped him create. Going back to her childhood home to recover, things start to get weird when she finds a monster living in the closet, and they forge a close personal connection.

Joining Barrera in the cast are Tommy Dewey, Edmund Donovan, Kayla Foster, and Meghann Fahy. The film received solid reviews out of Park City, including from our writer Cortland who praised the feminist narrative.

SYNOPSIS: “Your Monster” tells the story of the soft-spoken actor Laura Franco (Melissa Barrera), who is dumped by her longtime boyfriend (Edmund Donovan) while recovering from surgery and retreats to her childhood home to recover. But out of these gut-wrenching life changes emerges a monster (Tommy Dewey) with whom she finds a connection, encouraging Laura to follow her dreams, open her heart and fall in love with her inner rage.

Your Monster opens in theaters on October 25th via Vertical.
