‘The Dink’: Pickleball Comedy To Star Jake Johnson And Ben Stiller

Pickleball. When I go to the gym, it’s full of people who are playing it. It just looks like mini-tennis to me, but I guess it’s fun. Well, it’s gotten big enough that Ben Stiller, who famously starred in Dodgeball many moons ago, has decided to get back in front of the camera for a pickleball comedy, titled The Dink.

Red Hour Films and Rivulet Films announced today that they will team up for the pickleball comedy, The Dink. Jake Johnson (New Girl, Peter Parker in the Spider-Verse movies) will star, joined by Mary Steenburgen and Ed Harris. Former tennis superstar Andy Roddick will also have a role, along with Stiller who is producing through Red Hour Films.

The film will be directed by Josh Greenbaum, best known for directing Barb & Star Go To Vista Del Mar and the upcoming Will Ferrell documentary, Will & Harper.  He’s also attached to the Spaceballs sequel that is apparently still happening. Sean Clements (Workaholics) wrote the screenplay.

SYNOPSIS: The Dink follows a washed-up tennis pro (Johnson) who, in trying to save a club in crisis and win his father’s respect, is forced to break a solemn vow and do the one thing he swore he’d never do: play pickleball.

Stiller is making the festival rounds right now for his role in Nutcrackers, the latest from director David Gordon Green. He’ll return to exec-produce and direct episodes of Severence season two for Apple.
