Box Office: ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ Slays with Huge $110M Opening

1. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (review) – $110M

It’s really impossible to tell which remake/reboot/long-awaited sequel is going to do well and which will fall on its face. We’ve certainly seen some “sure fire” wins go down in a blaze of non-glory. That wasn’t the case for Michael Keaton’s return as the “ghost with the most” as Beetlejuice Beetlejuice pulled in a box office dominating $110M for the weekend.

2. Deadpool & Wolverine– $7.2M/$614M

3. Reagan– $5.2M/$18.5M

Not only did Reagan do better then expected in it’s opening weekend, it actually has some small bit of staying power with the lowest drop in attendance this week at 31%. Wonder if those box office earnings will trickle down to the below the line crew that worked on the film?

4. Alien: Romulus– $3.9M/$97.1M

While it’s not pulling the top numbers of the summer Fede Alvarez’s take on the cinema classic has done well and should break the $100M mark in the next two weeks.

5. It Ends With Us– $3.7M/$141M

6. The Forge– $2.9M/$20.7M

7. Twisters– $2.2M/$264.6M

Taking a big hit with the largest drop in receipts of the week at 71% it looks like the Glenn Powell starring legacy sequel is headed out of the top 10 soon. They can do so with their heads held high as Twisters was one of the highest grossing films of the summer.

8. Blink Twice– $2.1M/$20.2M

9. Despicable Me 4 – $1.8M/$357.8

10. The Front Room (review)- $1.6M

Brandy’s big return to the silver screen arrived with little fanfare, barely clawing it’s way to the last spot in the top 10, pulling in less then $2M in box office. In the ongoing theater vs streaming debate I think it’s safe to say this would have been one better left to the “at home” viewing column
