Josh Hutcherson and Mackenzie Davis have joined the DCU! DC Studios has announced that Hutcherson will voice Scott Free aka Mister Miracle, with Davis voicing his wife, Big Barda, in the upcoming Mister Miracle animated series. The news was revealed by DC Studios co-chief Peter Safran to IGN.
“Mr. Miracle, I think that Tom King really learned a lot in his season of co-creating and executive producing Lanterns, and he adapted his book Mr. Miracle fully on his own, wrote all eight episodes, and I think it’s just dynamite. Josh Hutcherson as Scott Free and Mackenzie Davis as Big Barda. And I just think it’s a book that I’ve always loved and I remember Tom telling us early on that, every convention he goes to, at least a couple people come up to him and say this book saved my life and I love that we got to tell that story over eight episodes. And it’s just a beautiful story about, “How do we survive in today’s world knowing that we’re never going to truly know the answers to the big questions in life?” It’s a beautiful book, and the adaptation is fantastic, so we’re excited about that,” Safran revealed.
Mister Miracle is one of the extraterrestrial New Gods, the son of New Genesis ruler Highfather. Miracle was sent to live on the despotic planet of Apokolips, ruled by the villain Darkseid, as part of a diplomatic arrangement. He eventually escaped to Earth alongside hsi wife, Big Barda, formerly one of Darkseid’s Female Furies, and attempts to live a normal life.
Hutcherson is best known for his roles in The Hunger Games and Five Nights at Freddy’s. Davis can be seen right now with Josh Hartnett in the Netflix series Below. Her major credits include Station Eleven, Halt & Catch Fire, and Terminator: Dark Fate.
The series is based on the acclaimed Eisner Award-winning run by King and artist Mitch Gerads. As Safran mentioned, King recently co-created the hit HBO series, Lanterns, and wrote all eight episodes of Mister Miracle. You may recall he was also attached to Ava DuVernay’s shelved New Gods movie, which would’ve included the character.
Also expected to be part of Mister Miracle is Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner, the arrogant Green Lantern he portrayed in Lanterns and Superman. We could see Hutcherson and Davis reprise their roles in live-action sometime in the future, as Gunn prefers.
