‘Miami Vice ’85’ Adds John Leguizamo As The Crime Flick’s Villain

Is there anyone who doesn’t love John Leguizamo? I’ve been a fan since Hangin’ with the Homeboys in 1991, one of his earliest roles. This has been a huge year for him already with Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, plus new gigs in Mike Flanagan’s The Exorcist: Martyrs, The Daniels’ upcoming event film with Matt Damon, and a return for Ice Age: Boiling Point. Now, you can add Miami Vice ’85 to his busy slate.

Deadline reports Leguizamo will play the villain, reportedly a cartel boss, in Miami Vice ’85 alongside Austin Butler and Michael B. Jordan. Whitney Peak, Alden Ehrenreich, Camila Morrone, and Danny Ramirez also star in the film directed by Joseph Kosinski.

Miami Vice ’85 draws inspiration from the pilot episode of the classic cop series starring Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas as detectives Crockett and Tubbs, capturing “the glamour and corruption of mid-’80s Miami.” In other words, expect lots of cocaine, flashy suits, skinny bikinis, and speedboats.

Leguizamo has played more than his share of bad guys, as he did recently in Violent Night. He should knock this out of the park.

Miami Vice ’85 hits theaters and IMAX on May 19th 2028.
