Zelda fans are legion, and Nintendo knows it. When the announcement was made for a special Zelda edition Nintendo Direct this morning, those fans hoped they were going to get a serious update on the upcoming live-action movie from Wes Ball. Well, we did get a little something, but probably not all that they were hoping for.
Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto was on hand to reveal the film’s title…The Legend of Zelda! Oooh, shocker!! Stunner!! I mean, what else were they going to call it? Thankfully, no subtitle or anything like that. Just straight meat and potatoes.
We did get a pretty basic logo for the film as well, along with confirmation of the April 30th 2027 release date. It’s bounced around the schedule a few times, first on March 26th 2027, then May 7th.
Benjamin Evan Ainsworth is set to star as Link, and since he’s the only one cast in the role I guess we won’t be getting any Ocarina of Time-esque growth spurts. Bo Bragason co-stars as Princess Zelda, joined by Uli Latukefu as Ganondorf, Dichen Lachman as Impa, and Yvonne Strahovski in an unknown role. The late Sam Neill also has a posthumous role as the King of Hyrule, giving us one more time to see the Jurassic Park legend in action.
So yeah, pretty anticlimactic if you were waiting on The Legend of Zelda movie news. But if you love the franchise, the Direct is definitely worth a watch because there’s some cool stuff in there to celebrate its 40th anniversary. You can watch it below.
