Should I be concerned that Jim Caviezel referenced the problematic Sound of Freedom on Fox News Digital when talking about his upcoming action flick, Ghost Soldier?
“People want to see someone do the right thing, with all the odds stacked against them. We saw this phenomenon with ‘Sound of Freedom’. Give them a hero who stands for what’s true and audiences show up. That hunger is still there,” Caviezel said.
I’m gonna let it slide because this actually doesn’t look too bad, and it’s been a long time since Caviezel’s been in a movie I wouldn’t mind watching. Ghost Soldier, directed by the talented William Eubank (The Signal, Underwater) stars Caviezel as “Henry “Fitz” Fitzgerald, a solitary man with a mysterious past, living a quiet life off the grid in his hometown. But when a powerful foreign corporation descends on his community determined to seize his and his neighbors’ land for a massive payday, Fitz takes action — he’s actually a former Special Forces soldier and advanced weapons developer. Armed with weapons no one has ever seen, a lifetime of lethal military training, and an unwavering code of justice, Fitz becomes the one thing his enemies never anticipated: a one-man war they can’t win.”
Caviezel is still best known for playing some guy named Jesus in Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ. Basically, he digs playing good guys who make sacrifices for others. Jesus didn’t have Fitz’s armory of weapons, though. You only see heavily-armed Jesus in MAGA fever dreams and bad AI.
Ghost Soldier has a solid cast, too, including Olivia Thirlby, Beau Knapp, Garret Dillahunt
and Shea Whigham.
The film opens in theaters on November 6th from Sony Pictures. Color me intrigued.
