‘Runner’ Trailer: Alan Ritchson, Owen Wilson Outrun Mercs To Save A Sick Kid In New Action-Comedy

Not to be confused with Gal Gadot’s The Runner, which also dropped a trailer today, Runner is the new action-comedy starring Alan Ritchson and Owen Wilson. Also produced by Ritchson, it centers on a delivery guy tasked with bringing a sick girl a healthy liver, only to find that mercenaries want to take the organ for themselves.

Sounds pretty dumb, right? Ritchson knows where his bread is buttered. Since breaking out with Reacher, he’s continued to star in action-heavy flicks. But lately he’s also begun adding more comedy into the mix, as with his recent film, Playdate, which is admittedly pretty terrible. Ritchson has more straight-forward stuff coming up, such as Motor City and a War Machine sequel.

This kind of buddy-comedy is old hat for Wilson, who plays the man who brought Ritchson the liver and must be escorted through the madness. However, Wilson has kept a low profile of late, as the Wedding Crashers actor’s most recent film was Haunted Mansion in 2023.

Scott Waugh, known for Expend4bles and Need for Speed, is directing from a script by Miles Hubley & Tommy White.

Also in the cast are Rodrigo Santoro, Leila George, Kate Box, Peta Sergeant, Geraldine Hakewill, Cecilia Toussaint, and Scarlett Crabtree.

Interestingly, Runner will open in theaters on September 11th from Angel Studios, primarily known for its “value-based” projects such as Sound of Freedom and Young Washington.
