John Cena might be done with the Fast & Furious franchise, but he’s getting back behind the wheel again in Matchbox: The Movie. Mattel and Apple TV debuted the trailer today at San Diego Comic-Con, revealing the action-comedy based on the die-cast toy cars first released in the 1950s.
Cena teams with Extraction director Sam Hargrave on Matchbox: The Movie, in which he stars as Sam, an undercover CIA agent who returns to his small town and inadvertently embroils his lifelong friends in a frantic international pursuit to save the world.
Also in the cast are Jessica Biel, Arturo Castro, Sam Richardson, Teyonah Parris, Danai Gurira, Golshifteh Farahani, Corey Stoll, and Bill Camp.
This is Biel’s first major film role since 2017’s Shock and Awe.
Hargrave directs from a script by David Coggeshall, known for The Family Plan films and Orphan: First Kill.
The trailer is packed with all of the things that make Cena so much fun to watch, tons of action, car chases, stunt work, and tons of jokes. This could be a lot of fun, and makes you wonder why it’s not playing in theaters.
Matchbox: The Movie hits Apple TV on October 9th.
