Florence Pugh has found her next non-MCU project following Thunderbolts* and the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. Pugh will star in fantasy film The Midnight Library from Lion director Garth Davis. The film is an adaptation of Matt Haig’s novel published in 2020.
Pugh will play Nora Seed, a woman unhappy with her life who reaches a breaking point. She ends up in a mystical library where she’s allowed to see and explore the infinite versions of herself to discover why life is truly worth living.
The screenplay is by playwrights Laura Wade and Nick Payne. Payne has worked with Pugh before on John Crowley’s We Live In Time.
Davis made a splash in 2016 with his Oscar nominated drama, Lion, starring Dev Patel. He followed that with the star-studded Mary Magdalene in 2018, and psychological thriller Foe in 2023. It’s been diminishing returns with Davis for a while now, but this could be the rebound he needs.
Filming on The Midnight Library is expected to begin in 2027.
”I couldn’t be more excited to reunite with Florence Pugh on ‘The Midnight Library.’ Her warmth and talent are magical, and together, I know we’ll do something special working with Matt’s iconic novel. This is a story that moves us, both a celebration of life in all its possibility and complexity. With Graham Broadbent, Blueprint Pictures, and Studiocanal behind us, I can’t wait to illuminate this adventure”, Davis said in a statement.
Pugh will be going up against herself on December 18th as she stars in both Avengers: Doomsday and in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part 3. A pretty good problem to have.
