‘Superman: Man Of Tomorrow’: James Gunn Adds ‘Shōgun’ And ‘Peacemaker’ DP To Superhero Sequel

James Gunn is changing things up in a big way for his Superman sequel, titled Man of Tomorrow. Gunn has confirmed that Sam McCurdy will be his DP, instead of Henry Braham who has shot his last four movies: Superman, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 & 3, and The Suicide Squad.

Not that Gunn and McCurdy are new acquaintances or anything. McCurdy, who is probably best known for his work on the acclaimed series Shōgun, shot episodes of Peacemaker seasons 1 and 2 for Gunn. This change is significant as it teases a vastly different visual style than the first Superman movie.

Superman: Man of Tomorrow has a lot riding on it. David Corenswet returns as Superman/Clark Kent, with Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Lars Eidinger will play the villain, Brainiac, a threat big enough to force the rivals into an uneasy alliance. Superman was a modest hit for Warner Bros. and DC Studios last year, earning $615M globally and strong critical reviews. But there’s also a lot of potential upheaval with the Netflix deal, and Gunn’s corner is going to need to keep pulling its weight. The film is currently expected to open on July 9th 2027.
