I look at the Now You See Me franchise in much the same way I do Tron. It’s a really cool idea (longtime readers will remember it was my most anticipated movie years ago) that has never quite lived up to the potential. That said, these are some of the most popular heist flicks to come around in quite some time, and later this month the third chapter, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, arrives as the vaunted Four Horsemen face the next generation of illusionist crimefighters.
Jesse Eisenberg, Dave Franco, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, and Morgan Freeman return, joined by Arianna Greenblatt, Dominic Sessa, Justice Smith, and Rosamund Pike.
Seth Grahame-Smith, Michael Lesslie, and Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese teamed up on the screenplay. Wernick and Reese are well known for their work on Deadpool and Zombieland, the latter directed by Ruben Fleischer who takes over the reins here, as well.
SYNOPSIS: The Four Horsemen (Eisenberg, Harrelson, Franco, Fisher) are back — to unite with a new generation of illusionists (Justice Smith, Dominic Sessa, Ariana Greenblatt) for their most global, high-stakes magical adventure yet. Their mission: Expose the corruption of Veronika Vanderberg (Rosamund Pike), a powerful diamond heiress with ties to arms dealers, traffickers, and warlords. Aided by the legendary Thaddeus (Morgan Freeman), the two generations of magicians must overcome their differences to try and defeat their cunning and dangerous adversary, in this magic-fueled heist filled with the franchise’s signature twists, turns, and thrilling reveals — along with some of the most thrilling illusions ever captured on film.
Now You See Me: Now You Don’t hits theaters on November 14th via Lionsgate.
