I don’t know director Sophie Tabet personally, but here’s what I do know; we share the same taste in movies. Stone Cold Fox is the kind of gritty 1980s action-thriller that I grew up on, only with one major difference. Rather than a bruising dude like Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, or Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead, it’s a female-driven flick featuring Kiernan Shipka, Krysten Ritter, Jamie Chung, and The Boys‘ Karen Fukuhara.
Stone Cold Fox stars Shipka as a woman who escapes a commune to find her family, but is forced to return when its leader, played by Ritter, kidnaps her little sister. Kiefer Sutherland is also in the cast as the crooked cop tasked with taking Shipka down.
The film was directed by Tabet and co-written with Julia Roth.
This is a lot of badass women in one flick. Shipka is best known for her starring role in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and recently, Twisters. Ritter is expected to her fan-favorite Marvel role of Jessica Jones in the upcoming season of Daredevil: Born Again. Chung, besides being an ex-Real Worlder, has starred in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, Sucker Punch, and Big Hero 6.
Sutherland is Jack Bauer himself, from the long-running series 24.
SYNOPSIS: In this ’80s revenge story, the defiant Fox (Shipka) breaks out of an abusive commune in search of her family. But when the queenpin (Ritter) kidnaps her little sister and sends a crooked cop (Sutherland) after her, Fox has no choice but to infiltrate the very place she escaped.
Vertical will release Stone Cold Fox in theaters November 7th.
