‘A Minecraft Movie’ Sequel Set For Summer 2027 Release, Jared Hess Returning To Direct

It’s time to head back into the sandbox once more. Warner Bros. has set A Minecraft Movie 2 for July 23rd 2027 release date in theaters. The original film opened in April and earned a whopping $957M worldwide, ranking as the third-highest-grossing movie of the year and one of the most successful video game adaptations ever.

Jared Hess is returning to direct and co-write the screenplay with Chris Galletta. Plot details are under wraps, but anyone who knows Minecraft knows there are tons of worlds and characters to be explored.

It’s unclear if Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Danielle Harris, and others will return to the cast. One would think signing them a high priority for WB, but as of right now no deals appear to be in place.

There was a time when Minecraft seemed like an impossible prospect. Multiple filmmakers came and went over the years, unable to get a handle on translating the open world video game to the big screen. But Hess and his crew figured it out, and now A Minecraft Movie 2 instantly becomes one of the biggest movies to look forward to in 2027. Production is expected to begin next year. [Deadline]
