Just last month, a report claimed that Joseph Kosinski’s Miami Vice reboot was eying Michael B. Jordan and Glen Powell as the silky smooth cop duo. Well, it turns out that the story was half right. Jordan is indeed in talks to play Ricardo Tubbs in the action flick, but it’s not Powell who will be joining him.
Deadline reports Austin Butler is in talks to play “Sonny” Crockett in Miami Vice. According to the report, Butler is very interested in the role, and if that’s true, he’s likely to get it. That’s one Hell of a pair and should look super cool in flashy suits and on speedboats.
No deals are firmly in place yet, as this is still very early days on the film, based on Michael Mann’s influential TV series.
The new version will have a screenplay by Dan Gilroy and Eric Warren Singer, and will be set in the ’80s rather than a contemporary reboot like Mann’s 2006 movie starring Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx. That film earned $164M but became a cult favorite over the years.
Miami Vice is set to hit theaters on August 6th 2027.
