For Guillermo Del Toro, Frankenstein is a passion project he’s been shepherding since early in his career. And now, finally, after so many years of trying to get it off the ground, Del Toro and Netflix are ready to unleash the monster later this month, just in time for Halloween. Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, Christian Convery, and Christoph Waltz lead a star-studded cast for the most anticipated adaptation of Mary Shelley’s horror classic yet.
Following its world premiere at Venice and recent slot at TIFF, Frankenstein promises a lavish epic, a tale of twisted genius and tragedy. Isaac plays Victor Frankenstein, but it’s Elordi as his tragic, monstrous Creation that has everyone talking.
SYNOPSIS: Oscar®-winning director Guillermo del Toro adapts Mary Shelley’s classic tale of Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but egotistical scientist who brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation.
While reviews have been strong, I found Frankenstein to be stylish and emotionally empty. I’m in the minority on this, though, and am curious to see the reaction once more people have their shot to check it out for themselves.
Frankenstein opens in select theaters October 17th, followed by Netflix on November 7th.
