Finally, it’s here! Lucasfilm and Disney have revealed the first look trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu, the first feature film since The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. This is a crucial release if they want to get Star Wars back on track, and it seems the decision was made to tailor this footage to resemble the classic George Lucas-era movies along with the adventurous, light-hearted vibe of the Disney+ series. Will it work? We’ll find out next May.
Pedro Pascal is back as Din Djarin, and of course there’s Grogu as well. Details on the plot remain largely under wraps, but in the footage we see speeder bikes, At-At Walkers tumbling off of snowy mountains, monsters, Rotta the Hut (played by Jeremy Allen White!) looking triumphant, Mando kicking ass, and Sigourney Weaver snatching a snack away from that sneaky Grogu.
Here is the new synopsis, which gives us some insight on the story:
The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu.
Jon Favreau directs from a script he co-wrote with Dave Filoni. A fourth season of The Mandalorian was written but it’s still unclear if it’ll go forward after the movie’s release. My gut tells me Disney will want to keep that box office money flowing if the film is a hit, as it should be.
The Mandalorian and Grogu hits theaters on May 22nd 2026.
