A second One Battle After Another trailer in the span of a few days? Gee, it’s almost like Warner Bros. heard the complaints about the lack of support Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest was getting. For what it’s worth, this is the best look at the film by far, boasting tons of action, humor, car chases, a Tom Cruise reference, and Leonardo DiCaprio leaping from a speeding car.
DiCaprio stars as a former revolutionary who joins with his former running buddies to save his daughter from his mortal enemy, Colonel Lockjaw, played by Sean Penn.
Also in the cast are newcomer Chase Infiniti, Benicio Del Toro (who is really cool in this trailer!), Teyana Taylor, Regina Hall, Wood Harris, and Alana Haim.
The film is Anderson’s second adaptation of a Thomas Pynchon book, after 2014’s Inherent Vice. I would argue that movie was the first drastic misstep by Anderson, and he struggled to course correct until Licorice Pizza in 2021.
SYNOPSIS: “When their evil enemy resurfaces after 16 years, a group of ex-revolutionaries reunites to rescue one of their own’s daughter.”
One Battle After Another hits theaters on September 26th, meaning it won’t be part of the fall festival circuit.
