It was never certain that Mark Zuckerberg would be a character in Aaron Sorkin’s The Social Network Part II, and it was even less likely that Jesse Eisenberg would return to reprise his Oscar-nominated performance. Now we know that Zuckberberg will be in the film, but Eisenberg definitely won’t be coming back because another actor is in line for the role.
Deadline reports that Succession actor Jeremy Strong is frontrunner to play Mark Zuckberberg in The Social Network Part II. The news comes just hours after we learned Mikey Madison and Jeremy Allen White are also being eyed for the film. And like that situation, there is no formal offer on the table for Strong just yet.
Sorkin will write and direct the sequel, which examines Facebook’s (now Meta) impact on January 6th, teens, preteens, and other countries. The various reports by Wall Street Journal writer Josh Horwitz served as Sorkin’s inspiration. White is expected to play Horwitz, with Madison as Frances Haugen, a whistleblower who exposed thousands of Facebook’s internal documents to the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Like Madison, Strong is notoriously picky about the roles he chooses. He recently earned an Academy Award nod for his performance as Roy Cohn in The Apprentice.
