‘X-Force’ Finally Happening? Ryan Reynolds Is Writing A Mystery Deadpool Team-Up Movie

Are we finally going to get that X-Force movie that nearly happened at 20th Century Fox? THR reports that Ryan Reynolds is writing a Marvel Studios movie that will include Deadpool and other X-Men characters, but it won’t be a solo movie for the Merc with a Mouth.

Following the $1.3B success of Deadpool & Wolverine, Reynolds has mainly turned his attention to writing. But he hasn’t wanted to do another solo Deadpool film, and recently downplayed the idea of him ever joining the main team of X-Men. He told TIME

“I’m writing a little something right now, that’s, I don’t know, it’s an ensemble…But, I like that [Deadpool] is isolated,” Reynolds teased. “If Deadpool becomes an Avenger or an X-Man, we’re at the end. That’s wish fulfillment, and you can’t give him that.”

This sounds a lot like X-Force, a more aggressive squad of X-Men that Deadpool has been part of in the comics, along with recognizable screen characters such as Wolverine, X-23, Cable, Psylocke, and Domino.

Fans will recall that a comically unfit X-Force team showed up in Deadpool 2 and was promptly slaughtered. Afte that, Drew Goddard was hired to write and direct a full movie featuring the team, but that plan was killed when Disney acquired Fox.

The other next best option would be for Deadpool to hang out with the Canadian superteam, Alpha Flight. I think that might happen someday but probably as a gag in a bigger picture. This sounds like an X-Force movie for sure, but until we get confirmation from Reynolds or Kevin Feige, we’re free to speculate.
