Mikey Madison has lined up her first major role since winning the Best Actress Academy Award for Anora. Deadline reports Madison will star alongside another actress having a banner year, Kirsten Dunst, in the new film Reptilia, the latest feature from Monos director Alejandro Landes Echavarría.
Directed by Echavarría from a script he co-wrote with Duke Merriman, Reptilia centers on a dental hygienist seduced by a mysterious mermaid into the dark and wet underworld of Florida’s exotic animal trade.
Production is expected to begin in the fall, after the film is pitched to buyers at Cannes.
Madison has been weighing her options since winning the Oscar, and most of them have been for major studio franchises. She reportedly turned down a role in Shawn Levy’s Star Wars movie opposite Ryan Gosling, and was eyed for Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil reboot. She was rumored for Luca Guadagnino’s shelved Sgt. Rock film at DC Studios, as well. Prior to her breakout performances recently, Madison was known for her small role in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and in 2022’s Scream.
Dunst is coming off some of the best reviews of her career for Civil War. She’ll be seen this October in Derek Cianfrance’s Roofman alongside Channing Tatum.
