Carey Mulligan Joins Greta Gerwig’s ‘Narnia’ Film For Netflix

Greta Gerwig’s Narnia is starting to come together for Netflix. An adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia series, Gerwig has focused on gathering some big names for the adult roles, which suggests the two primary kid characters will be played by fresh faces. According to THR, the newest addition to the film is three-time Academy Award nominee Carey Mulligan.

Mulligan joins Gerwig’s adaptation of the sixth film in the series, The Magician’s Nephew, which serves as a prequel to the most popular story, The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. Gerwig wrote the script and will direct.

The story follows friends Digory and Polly, who are tricked into being transported to the magical land of Narnia. There, they accidentally unleash the White Witch, Jadis, who follows them into 20th-century London.

So far, Gerwig has cast Meryl Streep as the voice of the talking lion, Aslan; Daniel Craig as Digory’s mischievous Uncle Andrew; and Emma Mackey as the White Witch. Mulligan will play Digory’s extremely ill mother.

Netflix has agreed to release Narnia into theaters for a brief two-week run in late 2026, a move they don’t always make but seems appropriate in this case.

Mulligan was last seen in the lovely comedy The Ballad of Wallis Island. She will be heard next in Wildwood, the latest stop-motion movie by Laika. Narnia marks her second recent movie for Netflix, as she starred with Adam Sandler in Spaceman last year.
