Causeway Films, the producers of such terrifying films as Talk to Me and The Babadook, have a new nightmare on their hands. The Australian horror The Moogai made a splash at Sundance last year, and it’s finally set to hit theaters on May 9th from Samuel Goldwyn Films. Punch Drunk Critics is happy to debut an exclusive clip from the film written and directed by Jon Bell in his feature debut, based on his 2020 short.
SYNOPSIS: Sarah and Fergus, a hopeful young Aboriginal couple, give birth to their second baby. But what should be a joyous time of their lives becomes sinister when Sarah starts seeing a malevolent spirit she is convinced is trying to take her baby. Fergus, who can’t see it but desperately wants to believe her, grows increasingly worried as she becomes more unbalanced. Is the child-stealing spirit real or is she in fact the biggest threat to the safety of their family?
In this clip, Sarah (Shari Sebbens) talks with her friend Becky (Bella Heathcote) about the weird things her mother-in-law Ruth (Tessa Rose) does, only for Ruth to show up with a little something special she’s brought for dinner.
