In a work of fiction, a Mary Sue is a seemingly flawless female character. She can be and do pretty much anything at the whim of the author, whether it makes sense or not. Weaknesses? Flaws? Not so much. In the upcoming action-comedy Killing Mary Sue, Sierra McCormick plays a young woman who appears to be a loser and liability, but turns out to be perfect…well, the perfect killing machine.
McCormick, best known for her role in the sci-fi cult favorite The Vast of Night, stars in Killing Mary Sue along with Dermot Mulroney, Sean Patrick Flanery, Jake Busey, French Stewart, Kym Whitley, Jason Mewes, and Martin Kove. A really fun cast for this one, especially Busey and Kove as the hired assassins.
The film is written and directed by James Sunshine, a longtime TV producer on shows including Big Brother, Hell’s Kitchen, and Project Runway. He made his feature directorial debut with Coronavirus Conspiracy in 2021.
Here’s the synopsis: A corrupt senator arranges for the murder of his biggest liability, his erratic burnout step-daughter, only for her to unwittingly discover her natural talent as an untouchable killer.
Samuel Goldwyn Films will release Killing Mary Sue on June 13th.
