Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema will never stray too far away from Middle-Earth, and never for very long. THR reports the next live-action film, Andy Serkis’ The Hunt for Gollum, will hit theaters on December 17th 2027. The announcement is part of a few dates cemented by WB, the others being M. Night Shyamalan and Nicholas Sparks’ Remain, and the next film in the Evil Dead franchise.
Peter Jackson, Phillipa Boyens, and Fran Walsh, the creatives behind The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, are back for The Hunt for Gollum. Serkis not only plays the title role, but he directs from a script by Boyens, Walsh, Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou. This is the first of two live-action films on the way, but we are still waiting for details on the second.
Remain is the unusual pairing of M. Night Shyamalan and The Notebook author Nicholas Sparks. The supernatural romantic thriller has been given a Halloween 2026 release. Shyamalan and Sparks are teaming up on the script, based on the book they’ve co-written that will hit store shelves this October. Starring in the film are Jake Gyllenhaal, Phoebe Dynevor, and Ashley Walters.
And finally, the follow-up to Evil Dead Rise will hit theaters on July 24th 2026. Souheila Yacoub is set to star, with Sébastien Vaniček directing and co-writing the screenplay with Florent Bernand. Sam Raimi is aboard as a producer, along with exec-producers Bruce Campbell and Evil Dead Rise director Lee Cronin.
