It’s official: Guy Ritchie will direct Jake Gyllenhaal in Road House 2 for Amazon MGM Studios. The news first started making the rounds a few weeks ago, but now has been confirmed by Variety.
Ritchie will reunite with Gyllenhaal, whom he worked with previously on The Covenant and the upcoming action flick, In the Grey. Gyllenhaal will return as Dalton, an ex-MMA fighter turned bouncer at a rowdy Florida bar. Will Beall (Bad Boys: Ride or Die) is writing the Road House 2 screenplay.
Doug Liman directed Road House, itself a remake of the 1989 classic starring Patrick Swayze. The film was a huge success for Amazon, racking up over 100M views on Prime Video. If you recall, Liman was very upset over Amazon’s decision not to give Road House a theatrical release. The dispute led to a lot of tension during production and now Amazon has decided not to bother bringing Liman back. Those disagreements must’ve been heated for them to make a move like this.
There’s no word on other actors returning, but Conor McGregor seems like a lock to return as the insane fighter Knox.. Plot details remain under wraps, although we should expect lots of punching, brawling, and drinking.
