- Captain America: Brave New World– $15M/$163.6M
The good news: Captain America: Brave New World held onto the #1 spot for the third week in a row, earning $15M for $163M domestic and $341M worldwide. The bad news: this is the weakest weekend of the year, and a massive 53% drop from this time last year when Dune: Part Two opened with $114M.
2. Last Breath (review)- $7.8M
Despite strong reviews, Focus Features’ real-life survival thriller Last Breath opened to a shallow $7.8M. The film couldn’t capitalize on the star power of Woody Harrelson or Shang-Chi star Simu Liu, nor the miraculous heroism displayed in the fact-based events. There’s a reason these movies don’t get made much anymore. The genre hasn’t provided a hit in years.
3. The Monkey– $6.3M/$24.5M
4. Paddington in Peru– $4.5M/$31.3M
5. Dog Man– $4.2M/$84M
6. Mufasa: The Lion King– $1.9M/$247.9M
7. Heart Eyes– $1.3M/$28.8M
8. The Unbreakable Boy– $1.2M/$4.5M
9. One of Them Days– $925K/$47.4M
10. Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX: Beginning– $916K
