‘Runner’: Alan Ritchson To Deliver Big Action In New Film From ‘Expend4bles’ Director

It might seem as if Alan Ritchson came out of nowhere, but he’s been around longer than most realize. Did you know the mountainous Reacher star competed in American Idol two decades ago? The actor is having his moment right now, though, adding one action flick after another to his resume. And now Deadline reports that Ritchson’s added one more, Runner, that he can flex those huge muscles in.

Ritchson has signed on to star in Runner as his next action flick. Directed by Scott Waugh, known for Need for Speed and Expend4bles, the film follows “a high-end courier who has three hours to transport an organ to save a seven-year-old girl in need of an immediate transplant. The seemingly simple mission turns deadly when the leader of a notorious crime syndicate becomes hell-bent on claiming the organ.”

Miles Hubley and Tommy White wrote the screenplay, which ended up on the Black List. Ritchson is also aboard as a producer.

Waugh, who broke out with the military action flick Acts of Valor, said about the news, “Runner with the driving force of an actor like Alan Ritchson reminds me of the Tony Scott action films I grew up on in the 90’s when character and story were pivotal and the action was a spectacle. I couldn’t be more excited to direct this super entertaining script and bring the thrilling world of Runner to life.”

Coming up for Ritchson is the third season of Reacher on Prime Video. A fourth season has already been greenlit. He also has the Netflix actioner War Machine, and a return as Aimes for the eleventh Fast & Furious movie.

Runner will begin shooting in March.
