Chris Hemsworth To Play Prince Charming In Disney Film From ‘Paddington’ Director

While Chris Hemsworth has struggled to be a box office star, his greatest successes have been with Disney as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And with his movie star good looks, perhaps it was inevitable that he’d be in line to play Disney’s iconic fairy tale ladies’ man, Prince Charming, in a new movie.

Recently, Paddington and Wonka director Paul King boarded Disney’s live-action Prince Charming film. And now Deadline reports Hemsworth is in talks to star. King will direct and co-write the script with Simon Farnaby and Jon Croker.

It’s unclear the direction the film will take, but we do know it will not be linked specifically to Cinderella. The character has been linked to multiple Disney princesses, including Snow White and Sleeping Beauty. In Bill Willingham’s terrific Fables comic book series, Prince Charming is seen as the same guy in all of these stories, successfully wooing princesses pretty much wherever he goes.

It’s been a rough year for Hemsworth. While he’s received positive reviews for his performances in Furiosa: A Mad Max Story and Transformers One, both films struggled at the box office. Actually, Hemsworth has found it tough to prove himself a bankable star outside of Marvel, where he plays Thor.

Disney has been attempting a Prince Charming movie for many years. Back in 2017, Stephen Chbosky (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) began developing a film that he’d write and direct, but it never got off the ground.
