‘The Room Next Door’ Trailer: Julianne Moore And Tilda Swinton Lead Pedro Almodóvar’s English-Language Debut

You don’t need a crystal ball to know that The Room Next Door is going to be on a lot of Best of the Year lists. The English-language debut by Pedro Almodovar is led by two of the best actresses in the world, Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton. It could be about literally anything and still be great. In this case, it’s a pair of old friends reunited over a “strangely sweet” situation.

SYNOPSIS: Ingrid (Julianne Moore) and Martha (Tilda Swinton) were close friends in their youth, when they worked together at the same magazine. Ingrid went on to become an autofiction novelist while Martha became a war reporter, and they were separated by the circumstances of life. After years of being out of touch, they meet again in an extreme but strangely sweet situation.

The film continues Almodovar’s introspective look into the lives of women. There’s not much revealed in the new trailer released today by Warner Bros, which is a bonus for those of us who want to go in knowing as little as possible. At Venice, The Room Next Door took home the prestigious Golden Lion award, and that might only be the beginning of its accolades.

The Room Next Door opens in select theaters December 20th, with an expansion in January.
