‘The Hand That Rocks The Cradle’ Remake To Star Maika Monroe In Iconic Role

In the ’80s and ’90s, domestic thrillers ruled. Get a nice, wholesome American family and have them terrorized by some crazy white lady, and you’ve got a hit on your hands. Actually, that formula still works today. And that’s why 20th Century Studios has its sight set on a remake of 1992’s The Hand that Rocks the Cradle.

Deadline reports Maika Monroe will star in a remake of The Hand that Rocks the Cradle. Monroe has big shoes to fill, as she’ll take on the role made famous by Rebecca De Mornay, that of a vengeful woman who miscarries after her doctor husband commits suicide when he is accused of sexual misconduct. To get revenge, she poses as a nanny and infiltrates the home of one of his accusers so as to destroy her family from within. The original film was directed by Curtis Hanson and starred De Mornay, Annabella Sciorra, Matt McCoy, Ernie Hudson, and Julianne Moore in only her second screen credit.

Monroe is best known for her roles in other horror films, particularly It Follows, Watcher, and the recent hit Longlegs. We haven’t had the chance to see her in this type of antagonist role, though, which should be interesting to watch.

The film will be directed by Mexican filmmaker Michelle Garza Cervera, who earned accolades for her debut Huesera: The Bone Woman. Screenwriter Micah Bloomberg wrote another provocative thriller, Sanctuary, that starred Margaret Qualley and Christopher Abbott.

Expect The Hand that Rocks the Cradle to arrive in 2025.
