The latest trailer for Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis should probably have a nice big quote attached to it saying “Oops, our bad!!” The most recent trailer was met with controversy when it was revealed that it used fake AI-generated movie quotes attributed to real critics. Those quotes slammed Coppola’s impressive body of work, as a means of showing the early negative reviews of Megalopolis would eventually be seen as wrong. Along with Coppola’s talk about “woke” culture, allegations against him about misconduct on set, and the long wait to secure distribution have really hurt the film’s prospects.
That said, Megalopolis is still one of the most anticipated movies of the month, and a new trailer heralds its arrival. The epic sci-fi drama stars Adam Driver, Nathalie Emmanuel, Giancarlo Esposito, tons of other A-listers, telling the story of one man’s ambition to create the perfect society.
SYNOPSIS: Megalopolis is a Roman Epic fable set in an imagined Modern America. The City of New Rome must change, causing conflict between Cesar Catilina, a genius artist who seeks to leap into a utopian, idealistic future, and his opposition, Mayor Franklyn Cicero, who remains committed to a regressive status quo, perpetuating greed, special interests, and partisan warfare. Torn between them is socialite Julia Cicero, the mayor’s daughter, whose love for Cesar has divided her loyalties, forcing her to discover what she truly believes humanity deserves.
Also in the cast are Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Talia Shire, Jason Schwartzman, Kathryn Hunter, Grace VanderWaal, Chloe Fineman, James Remar, D.B. Sweeney, and Dustin Hoffman.
Lionsgate will release Megalopolis into theaters on September 27th.
