‘A Mistake’ Trailer: Elizabeth Banks Stars In Christine Jeffs’ Medical Drama

Welcome back, Christine Jeffs. The filmmaker had a couple of notable films in Sylvia (starring Gwyneth Paltrow as Sylvia Plath) and Sunshine Cleaning (with Emily Blunt and Amy Adams), but hasn’t directed a feature since 2008. But she’s back with the medical drama A Mistake, starring Elizabeth Banks as a doctor who…well, she makes a big mistake.

Banks stars as surgeon Beth Taylor who makes a split second decision to allow a young colleague to take charge of a small procedure. But when something goes terribly wrong, Beth is put in the middle of a difficult situation.

Mickey Sumner, Richard Crouchley, Simon McBurney, Fern Sutherland, Rena Owen, and Joel Tobeck co-star with Banks. The film was directed and written by Jeffs, adapted from the Carl Shuker novel.

SYNOPSIS: When expert surgeon Elizabeth Taylor (Banks) makes the decision to allow her young registrar, Richard Whitehead, to take charge of one small but delicate step during a routine surgery on a very sick young woman, a mistake is made that can’t be undone. Elizabeth’s efforts to protect Richard and herself come into conflict with the desperate need for black and white answers from the patient’s parents and the hospital’s single-minded attempts to protect their reputation. A film about human fallibility, and forgiveness.

A Mistake opens in theaters September 20th.
