‘The Deliverance’ Trailer: Andra Day And Glenn Close Are Haunted By Demons In Lee Daniels’ Horror Thriller

Andra Day in THE DELIVERANCE

Lee Daniels, horror director? It’s probably not the most obvious thought that the guy behind Precious, The Butler, and The United States vs. Billie Holliday would turn his attention towards horror, but that’s what he’s done with The Deliverance. Like a lot of Daniels’ work, the story is based in reality and the bizarre 2011 haunting of the Ammons family.

Reuniting with his ‘Billie Holliday‘ star Andra Day, Daniels tells the story of a struggling single mother who moves with her family into a new home for a fresh start. But it isn’t long before strange things begin happening that threaten not only the lives of her children, but their souls.

Starring alongside Day are Glenn Close, Mo’Nique, Anthony B. Jenkins, Miss Lawrence, Demi Singleton, Tasha Smith, Omar Epps, Caleb McLaughlin, and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor.

Daniels directed The Deliverance from a script by David Coggeshall
Elijah Bynum. Bynum was also the writer/director of the shelved Jonathan Majors drama Magazine Dreams, as well as the Timothee Chalamet film Hot Summer Nights. Before this, Coggeshall wrote horror sequel Orphan: First Kill.

The Deliverance hits Netflix on August 30th.

SYNOPSIS: Ebony Jackson, a struggling single mother fighting her personal demons, moves her family into a new home for a fresh start. Inspired by a true story, THE DELIVERANCE is directed by Academy Award nominee Lee Daniels and stars Andra Day, Glenn Close, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, and Mo’Nique in a genre-defying take on darkness, possession, and finding a higher power.
