‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Trailer: Anthony Mackie Flies Solo For The First Time In February 2025

Finally, Marvel Studios has dropped the first teaser trailer for Captain America: Brave New World, the first solo film for Anthony Mackie as the patriotic Avenger. Fans have been clamoring for this, asking for months why footage hadn’t been revealed when we know it was shown at Cinemacon. But the timing is right, because with Deadpool & Wolverine the only Marvel movie in 2024, it means this trailer can be shown alongside it.

It’s been six years since Steve Rogers handed the shield over to Sam Wilson. In that time, we’ve seen Wilson struggle with the responsibility, as seen in the Disney+ series Captain America & the Winter Soldier. But now he’s fully embraced the role, and as seen in this footage, he’s willing to stand up to President Thunderbolt Ross, played now by Harrison Ford, in defending himself as the rightful Captain.

Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson, both writers on the aforementioned series, return to continue Sam Wilson’s story. They’re joined by director Julius Onah and co-writer Matthew Orton who wrote the recent reshoots.

Rumors suggest the story will clean up a glaring MCU plot hole, that of the giant Celestial sticking up from the ocean following 2021’s Eternals. There’s also an international conspiracy afoot, one that involves plotlines from Marvel’s 2008 movie The Incredible Hulk, necessitating the return of Tim Blake Nelson as the villainous Leader, and Liv Tyler as Betty Ross.

Also returning for Brave New World are Danny Ramirez as Falcon and Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, an early victim of the Super Soldier Serum. Others in the cast include Shira Haas as Sabra, Xosha Roquemore, WWE superstar Seth Rollins, Rosa Salazar, and Giancarlo Esposito who is all over this trailer causing trouble.

SYNOPSIS: After meeting with newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross, played by Harrison Ford in his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, Sam finds himself in the middle of an international incident. He must discover the reason behind a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red.

That reference to “seeing red” likely teases the arrival of the Red Hulk, and in case you aren’t steeped on Marvel Comics lore I’ll just leave his real identity a secret for now.

Captain America: Brave New World opens in theaters on February 14th 2025. Expect to see more at San Diego Comic-Con later this month.
