‘Across The River And Into The Trees’ Trailer: Liev Schreiber And Josh Hutcherson Star In Ernest Hemingway WWII Adaptation

ACROSS THE RIVER AND INTO THE TREES opens on August 30th

Ernest Hemingway wasn’t just a literary icon and writer of some of the greatest novels of the 20th century, his works are among the most adapted by Hollywood. Fifteen features based on Hemingway’s writings have been brought to the big screen, and that doesn’t even count those adapted for television. The next one to hit theaters is Across the River and Into the Trees, based on the 1950 novel that was the last to be published by Hemingway before his death.

Starring Liev Schreiber, Josh Hutcherson, Matilda De Angelis (who we just saw in the Citadel: Diana trailer) Danny Huston, Laura Morante, and Sabrina Impacciatore, the film about a terminally ill war hero captures all of the classic Hemingway themes of love, death, war, and youth.

SYNOPSIS: Set in post-World War II Italian Venice, war-torn U.S. Army Colonel Richard Cantwell is a true hero who faces the news of his illness with indifference.

The film was directed by Paula Ortiz, the Spanish filmmaker behind Chrysalis, The Bride, Teresa, and the upcoming biopic The Red Virgin. Ortiz took over from Martin Campbell (Goldeneye) who was attached to an earlier version of the film that was to star Pierce Brosnan.

Across the River and Into the Trees opens in theaters on August 30th.
