Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have been running buddies for a long time. From Good Will Hunting to Dogma to their production banner Artists Equity, the duo is a package deal, recently starring together in The Last Duel. And now they’ll team up again on screen in RIP, a new thriller from director Joe Carnahan.
Deadline reports Damon and Affleck will produce and star in RIP, a crime thriller that Carnahan will write and direct. Plot details are being kept under wraps for now, but that hasn’t stopped theatrical and streaming distributors from showing interest in the project. And who can blame them?
Carnahan knows his way around a crime thriller, having directed Narc, Stretch, and Smokin’ Aces, which also featured Affleck. At one point he directed some pretty big blockbuster studio movies, too, such as The A-Team and The Grey, but has moved to smaller ones over the last few years. He most recently directed the Gerard Butler flop Copshop, and is in post on two films, Shadow Force with Kerry Washington and Omar Sy, and survival thriller Not Without Hope starring Zachary Levi.
Coming up for Affleck is The Accountant 2, which recently wrapped. Damon will be seen next opposite Casey Affleck in The Instigators, which arrives in August.
