The movie 500 Miles narrates the story of a family who must reunite after two siblings leave their troubled home in England for their grandfather’s place on the Irish West Coast. Based on a script by Malcolm Campbell, Morgan Matthews is set to direct the movie. The director has some notably good works under his name, including Williams, centred around the Formula 1 team boss, and X+Y.
Movie Casting
The movie’s star-studded cast is among its stand-out features. Bill Nighy plays the grandfather, to which Tassilo Hallbaver, the Head of Sales and Acquisitions at Beta Cinema, expressed his delight. He reiterated that following Nighy’s Oscar-nominated performance in Living, the production team was assembling a dream cast.
Maisie Williams has also been cast as Kait, a spirited street artiste who joins in the adventurous journey across sea and land. Williams’s lead role in 500 Miles is no surprise, as she made a mark in the industry after starring as Arya Stark in the Game of Thrones (GOT) series. The project by HBO was one of the most popular TV shows of all time and its 5th season recorded up to 68 million views per episode. Its popularity further translated to its adaptation in other entertainment forms, including GOT merchandise, games and slots at casinos offering movie-themed games. Similar to GOT, other popular movie-themed video slots include Peaky Blinders and Thor, which feature icons and main characters from their respective TV shows. Release Date
Origin Pictures, Port Pictures, and Minnow Films are among the movie producers. Shooting has been confirmed to commence in Ireland in late 2024, but the movie has no release date in sight. However, there have been positive comments regarding its ongoing production. Tassilo remarked, “We are delighted to launch 500 Miles at the European Film Market. The script takes us on an emotional, often hilariously funny, yet deeply moving journey through some of the most beautiful parts of the UK and Ireland.”
Executive producer at Origin Pictures David Thompson also expressed excitement at the project. He stated, “500 Miles is both hilarious and heart-wrenching. It is ultimately life-affirming, has such an original take on the world and will be a truly unforgettable film.”
Where To View 500 Miles Upon Production
Beta holds the international sales rights to the movie and has sold the distribution rights in Ireland and the United Kingdom to True Brit Entertainment. It was pre-sold at the Marché du Film in Cannes and to Kismet Movies for Australia and New Zealand.
Front Row in the Middle East has also purchased airing rights, similar to Maestro Distribution in Italy and September Film in Benulux. Others include Feelgood Entertainment in Greece, Discovery in the Former Yugoslavia and Aardwolf Films, which paid for the worldwide airline rights.
