Nicolas Cage has been busier than ever. Dream Scenario, Renfield, Pig, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent…if you’re a fan then this has been a run to celebrate, and he’s just added a return as Spider-Man Noir to his crammed schedule. But Cage is far from done, and his next film, Longlegs, already has a ton of buzz among the horror community, and for good reason.
Cage plays a serial killer in the film from writer/director Oz Perkins, known for Greta & Hansel, I am the Pretty Thing that Lives in the House, and The Blackcoat’s Daughter. So he’s got a lot of cred among genre fans, and seems to be bringing a Silence of the Lambs meets Se7en vibe.
Starring alongside Cage is It Follows actress Maika Monroe, who is no slouch herself.
There’s no secrecy surrounding the killer, either. We know it’s Cage going in which means he’ll be free to cut loose with his performance.
Here’s the synopsis: Set in 1974, the film focuses on Lee Harker, a new FBI agent, who has been assigned to an unsolved case of a serial killer. As the investigation becomes more complicated with occult evidence uncovered, Harker realizes a personal link to the killer and must act quickly to prevent another family murder.
NEON will release Longlegs into theaters on July 12th.
