‘Mortal Kombat 2’: Karl Urban Reportedly In Final Talks For Johnny Cage Role

Well, it turns out WWE superstars Mike “The Miz” Mizanin and Cody Rhodes are going to come up short in their pursuit of the Johnny Cage role in Mortal Kombat 2. TheWrap is reporting that Karl Urban, he of The Boys and Star Trek, is in final talks to play the Hollywood actor and master of the shadow kick.

Cage is one of the original Mortal Kombat characters, having debuted in the first game in 1992. He was also one of the few who didn’t make it into the 2021 movie, although his arrival was teased at the conclusion.

This will have to be a slightly different take on Johnny Cage if Urban is cast. Cage is a young, vain Hollywood action star with a martial arts background and a big ego. He mellows out a little bit in later games, but Urban, who is 50-years-old and from New Zealand, would be an older take on the character.

Simon McQuoid is coming back as director with Jeremy Slater writing the screenplay.
