‘Twisters’: Glen Powell Will Go Storm Chasing With Daisy Edgar-Jones In ‘Twister’ Sequel

Last year was huge for Glen Powell, as the former Scream Queens actor was made to look like a badass pilot in two big movies: Top Gun: Maverick and Devotion. So what’s next? How about joining rising star Daisy Edgar-Jones and Minari director Lee Isaac Chung for Twisters, a new take on the hit 1996 blockbuster, Twister, that starred Helen Hunt and the late Bill Paxton.

Deadline has the news of Powell joining Edgar-Jones in Twisters, with a script by The Revenant screenwriter Mark L. Smith. The original film centered on spirited storm chasers tracking a deadly tornado in Oklahoma. How the new story will be updated is unclear, although new weather tracking technology and updated techniques by storm chasers should be a major component.

Edgar-Jones is expected to play the daughter to Hunt and Paxton’s characters, having become a storm chaser just like her parents. Hunt may also be returning for the film.

A previous attempt at a sequel, led by Blindspotting star Daveed Diggs, was put on ice and Diggs still isn’t too happy about it.

Coming up for Powell is Deputy X, a sci-fi actioner from Fast & the Furious franchise writer Chris Morgan. He’s currently in production on a new untitled comedy that will pair him with Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney.

Twisters opens in theaters on July 19th 2024.
