Ang Lee Casts Son Mason Lee To Star In His Upcoming Bruce Lee Biopic

Ang Lee has decided his next movie will be the most scrutinized project of his career. And he made the most divisive Hulk movie ever! Deadline reports Lee’s next film will be a Bruce Lee biopic. Not only that, but Lee has chosen his own son, Mason Lee, to play the legendary actor and martial artist.

Ooooooh boy.

The project is set up at Sony Pictures, and will have Dan Futterman (Capote) writing the screenplay.

Not that anyone needs a refresher on who Bruce Lee is. He is, without a doubt, the most famous martial artist ever, eventually becoming one of the top action stars in all of Hollywood. He broke out with his role as Kato in The Green Hornet, and really took off with the release of Enter the Dragon. However, Lee died suddenly at the age of 32, sparking years of rumors and conspiracy theories. Even more tragic is that Lee’s son, actor Brandon Lee, died young due to a fluke on-set accident.

“Accepted as neither fully American nor fully Chinese, Bruce Lee was a bridge between East and West who introduced Chinese Kung Fu to the world, a scientist of combat and an iconic performing artist who revolutionized both the martial arts and action cinema,” Ang Lee said. “I feel compelled to tell the story of this brilliant, unique human being who yearned for belonging, possessed tremendous power in a 135-pound-frame, and who, through tireless hard work, made impossible dreams into reality.”

Lee most recently directed Will Smith in Gemini Man. His list of credits includes Best Picture winner Life of Pi, The Ice Storm, Brokeback Mountain, Hulk, and Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk which is one of Mason Lee’s credits. He also appeared in Cathy Yan’s Dead Pigs, and played Teddy in The Hangover Part II.
