‘7 Days’ Interview: Karan Soni And Roshan Sethi On Their Spirit Award-Winning Film And The Power Of Mark Duplass

Unlike most people, quarantine was ripe for creativity for writing partners and real life couple Karan Soni and Roshan Sethi. Soni, who is best known for his roles in Deadpool and TBS’ Miracle Workers, found himself at home in the same place as Sethi, a writer for The Resident and the upcoming film Call Jane. Together, they wrote 7 Days, the story of a first date for an arranged marriage that starts at the very beginning of the pandemic.

Neither could imagine the film being produced when they first started, let alone gaining submission to the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival. Both hilarious and heartfelt,  with standout performances from Soni and Geraldine Viswanathan, its no wonder 7 Days won Best First Feature at this year’s Independent Spirit Awards.

I got to chat with Sethi and Soni about making an independent film during the pandemic and the best part of working together.

7 Days opens today, March 25th.

A D.C area native, Cortland has been interested in media since birth. Taking film classes in high school and watching the classics with family instilled a love of film in Cortland’s formative years. Before graduating with a degree in English and minoring in Film Study from Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania, Cortland ran the college’s radio station, where she frequently reviewed films on air. She then wrote for another D.C area publication before landing at Punch Drunk Critics. Aside from writing and interviewing, she enjoys podcasts, knitting, and talking about representation in media.
