New ‘Scream’ Sequel On The Way With Filming To Begin This Summer

A good horror franchise never dies, they just get turned into legacy requels or rebooted endlessly. Scream has successfully pulled off a soft reboot, earning more than $100M worldwide as people flocked to see who the new Ghostface killer would turn out to be. And now those people are being invited back to see who the next one will be.

Paramount and Spyglass are moving forward on an untitled Scream sequel, making it the sixth movie in the long-running franchise. All of the major players behind-the-camera will return, including co-directors Radio Silence (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett ), along with co-writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick.

As for the cast? Well, we don’t know if we’ve seen the last of Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott or Courteney Cox’s Gale Weathers, but it’s my belief that Scream can’t truly end until Sidney is under the mask.  We can probably expect some of the newer cast to return, such as Melissa Barrerra and Jenna Ortega, who play siblings Sam and Tara Carpenter.

Production on the new Scream begins this summer, meaning we could see it around this time next year.
