Barry Levinson, one of the real Hollywood veteran filmmakers who has seen it all, is making a movie about the making of The Godfather. This is a popular idea of late, but Levinson’s version is looking at the relationship between director Francis For Coppola, and producer Robert Evans, with Oscar Isaac and Jake Gyllenhaal attached to those roles. And now you can add Elisabeth Moss into the mix as a key figure.
Deadline reports Elisabeth Moss is the latest to join Barry Levinson’s Godfather film, taking on the role of Eleanor Coppola, wife to Francis Ford Coppola. The film is based on a Black List script by Andrew Farotte, that “chronicle the battles between Coppola, who was 31 at the time, and Evans, which included taking a gamble on casting Marlon Brando, who had not had a hit in years, and a then-little-known Al Pacino.” Despite the behind-the-scenes drama, The Godfather went on to be a box office hit in 1972 and one of the most iconic films in Hollywood history.
Like her husband, Eleanor is a filmmaker in her own right, having director Hearts of Darkness, a documentary on her husband’s struggles with Apocalypse Now. She also directed the 2016 comedy Paris Can Wait, and Love is Love is Love, an ensemble that opened last year.
Moss is one of the best actresses working today, and is in the thick of the awards season for her performance in The Invisible Man.
