Hailee Steinfeld Finally Confirmed As Kate Bishop In Marvel’s ‘Hawkeye’ Series

Ironically, the casting of Hailee Steinfeld in Marvel’s Hawkeye series has finally hit a bullseye. It took a while to get there, but now we know for sure that Steinfeld is playing Kate Bishop along Jeremy Renner in the Disney+ show, after she was spotted shooting scenes in New York.

This has been a long time coming. News of Steinfeld’s casting broke last year, but then the whole thing seemed to fall apart. Steinfeld herself played coy, and Marvel Studios has been steadfast in refusals to confirm anything. But unless they’re pulling off a massive con job (which, honestly, they’ve done before in regards to Hawkeye), this looks about as legit as it gets.

Kate Bishop is the daughter of a wealthy family, and takes up crime-fighting after an attack changes her life. She becomes a key member of the Young Avengers and takes on Clint Barton, the Avenger and O.G. Hawkeye, as her mentor in being one of the few superheroes out there without any actual super-powers.

While we don’t have set plot details, Hawkeye will likely follow a similar path as the comics. Barton, who has already retired from the Avengers, but came back to join the team in the final battle against Thanos, will take Bishop under his wing and make her the new Hawkeye.

From there, it’s anybody’s guess, but Marvel does seem to have a Young Avengers series or movie in the works.

In some ways, entering the MCU is the natural next step for Steinfeld. After breaking out with a scene-stealing True Grit role, she’s been involved in multiple successful franchises, including two Pitch Perfect movies, Bumblebee, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
